Was up north of the border this morning giving some much needed attention to a colleague’s Focus. It was awful, ingrained bugs and debris.

came up really nicely but had to work for it. White shows the dirt alright but when clean it doesn’t look anything more than just clean so giving a gloss to the body takes a bit of technique.

This makes me want to clean my Twingo, it’s awfully dirty now, luckily it doesn’t show that much due to the cream-ish colour.

Actually I’ve got a question for you, I’ve got some black specs on my boot lid, which I can’t get off when washing it in the normal way. Any advice how I could get these off? I can try to take a picture of it, if that helps.

A Clay Bar kit is probably a good place to start.

If they are black specs they will undoubtedly be tar. You should be able to get a good tar and glue remover from any automotive shop.

White spirit will also remove it (but don’t leave it on too long) if you can’t find any tar remover locally.

If you can’t find anything have a look at ones of the U.K. detailing sites. Most will post Europe wide. I’ve post a list with discount codes to sweeten the deal and offset the price of postage.

AutoFinesse ObliTARate is my go to tar and glue remover.

Spray it on and let it work and then gently wipe it off. For larger clumps, try to flake some off and then spray with AF tar remover.

Also take a look at iron fallout remover such as Bilt Hamber Korrosol or CarPro Iron-X. Brake dust that imbeds into the paint and not just makes your wheels look bad. It will show on your car like caramel coloured spots. Which will rust and expand leading to a failure of the clearcote, which initially will show as blisters and eventually larger spots of rust which will be your car body.
